Not that I’m one to say “I told you so,” but in a rather abrupt fashion today 365 Main suffered a critical power outage that affected a fair number of their colo customers. And cut out the knees of some major Web 2.0 services.

In a conversation with Jonathan today, I had mentioned Yahoo’s impending discontinuation of Yahoo Photos in favor of Flickr. I began to wonder what would happen when the first Software as a Service loses its customer data.

Note that i say “when,” not “if.”

Imagine if you will, what would happen if Flickr lost all of your photos, or Google Apps lost all of your documents, basecamp all your project data, or (heaven forbid), del.icio.us your bookmarks.  read more »
