Drupalcon 2008 Szeged: Drupal in the cloud session posted

The Cloud Computing session presented at the bi-annual DrupalCon Szeged session in Hungary has been posted by the Internet Archive, who is generously recording and hosting the sessions. Watch the video here.

Acquia's Ethan Fremen and WorkHabit's Adam Kalsey present.

Ethan provides a good overview of Cloud Computing, platforms that are available (and some pros and cons), and the benefits of using platforms, helping to being people up to speed. He also touches on the Java Drupal work (check out our post from 2007), and Sun Microsystem's Project Caroline (a very excited cloud platform from Sun), as well as s3fs and FUSE, as well as some discussion of the persistent file storage (EBS, Elastic Blog Storage) recently offered by Amazon.

Adam drives into costs & how costs are factored on Amazon, availability zones, an overview of Amazon's services, factoring for cost on Amazon's model, high availability, database models, and goes on from there.

If you're interested in cloud computing and Drupal, this is a great place to get a primer.

We'll be publishing a great deal about clouds in coming months, so look for that. WorkHabit is now doing a lot with Drupal and Amazon, and we've released an AMI for Amazon, and our new service is in beta (Elastic2, fully managed ha Drupal on the cloud).
