New version of Drupal EC2 AMI released

We're happy to announce that the latest version of our free Drupal AMI has been released: Drupal AMI 1.0 RC1, AWS ID ami-2a8a6d43. Like the previous version of our AMI, it will allow you to install any version of Drupal that you like, at the click of a button.

What's new in this version? At the request of our users, this AMI comes pre-installed with several packages that are dependencies used by many popular Drupal modules, including pear, screen, php-soap, Crypt_HMAC, and mcrypt (both the package and the apache configuration).

For those of your just starting out with EC2, we've published detailed instructions for using our AMI. These instructions are also available as a screencast.

If you are just starting out with Drupal, launching an AMI is a quick and easy way to start, letting you avoid the hassle of setting up your own hardware or getting a system administrator to configure everything for you.

Following the instructions linked to above, use this latest version of our AMI by launching an EC2 instance based on image ID ami-2a8a6d43. Then, enter in the User Data field the Drupal version you'd like us to install. Launch the instance, and our launch scripts will take care of the rest, installing your desired version of Drupal into a preconfigured LAMP stack. Point your browser at the hostname of your newly booted instance and you'll find a Drupal server ready to start using. It's that easy!

nice!

Hey Ann. Didn’t realize that you had left amazon.

This image sounds cool - planning on downloading it tonight and playing with it. Want to try to do a failover setup for a few of my personal sites, and also migrate some content over to drupal. Sounds like this will jumpstart me.

My congrats goes ALL to you

My congrats goes ALL to you and to your team Great AMI and well detailed screencast keep up your fine work!

Happy New Year!-)

Thanks!

Glad yo like it. Thanks for the comments.

Script for VirtualHost?

Is it possible to change a little bit your script [connect-ebs.sh] to support VirtualHosts [more sites in www directory] and not only the html directory?

Thank you very much, once again! _Stefanos

Good idea

Could you add that to the issue queue on Drupal.org? http://drupal.org/project/issues/ec2ami

That way we won’t lose track of the request.

Is this image broken?

I was using this and loving it for a week or so. Sometime within the past week, it stopped working, with this error from ec2:

“Registered machine image manifest for ami-7e5bbf17 and manifest in S3 differ. Has the image been rebundled but not re-registered?”

Any help?

AMI re-released: ami-2a8a6d43

Hi folks,

Yes, late last week the image bundle for this AMI got corrupted, and also several people reported a problem where the connect-ebs script wasn’t working properly, so we’re killing two birds with one stone here and rebundling a new version of the AMI that fixes both the bundle issue and the connect-ebs issue. You can find it under ID ami-2a8a6d43

I’ll be updating the blog post to reference this AMI id instead of the old one. We apologize for any inconvenience the connect-ebs issue has caused.

Ann

Drupal Install Fails

I didn’t get an installed Drupal Instance after the new AMI launched.

Issues with MySQL and it looks for an EBS volume which it obviously doesn’t find.

My console output is at http://houndbee.com/drupal-ami-fail-console.txt

Cannot SSH into instance

I can fire up this AMI OK, but it does not appear to set the SSH authenticated_keys properly for the root user to allow root ssh in, using my given keypair.

Also, the admin port for drupal is set to port 3000, which is not open in my default security group. I would recommend documenting this requirement.

is the connect-ebs.sh script

is the connect-ebs.sh script available anywhere other than the ami itself? it would be really helpful for those that are trying to config drupal on their own ami image - thanks!

drupal 6?

Works with drupal 5 great. When I put in drupal 6.12 as the version I get a “requirements problem” - it does not look like drupal 6 is installed at all. Is 6 supposed to work?
