Project Management at a Dev Conference?

We’re not headed to DrupalCon DC until next March, but it’s already causing a lot of buzz around WorkHabit this week as we make plans, submit our talks, and watch and wait through the voting process.

We have several talks submitted by WorkHabit folks up for voting:

Please go check them out and let folks know you want to see us present!

As for my talk, it may seem a little out of place, but I’ve been surprised for years at how few people are really talking about Drupal-specific project management in this community, other than modules developed to serve as PM tools.

Drupal is unique and powerful, and solid project planning, scoping, and information architecture up front can really make the difference between a Drupal site that “works” and a Drupal site that LIVES, flows, and raises the bar for intuitive navigating and beautiful information display.

Open source projects also have unique constraints for Project Managers who are accustomed to ‘standard’ web projects and proprietary CMS’s. How do you manage the silent (and sometimes, not so silent) role of the community in private projects?

I’m really looking forward to getting this discussion fired up at DrupalCon. While the Drupal codebase has been improving and growing by leaps and bounds, we can definitely do more to advance the project by increasing our level of professionalism and management across the board. Hope to see you there!

And if you’ve ever wanted to start a DrupalCamp, a BOF, a regional meeting group, or a code sprint, please join us for Drupalcamp, How to and Q & A. Drupal Assoc. Board Member Jacob Redding will be moderating and is putting together a global panel of organizers and experts to talk about how we got started and give advice, tips, and inspiration on how YOU can start a meetup or conference where you live.
