Whiteboards everywhere

We just got finished installing floor to ceiling whiteboards around some of the offices and common spaces in the Sacramento office. Here's how you can do it without spending thousands of dollars on large whiteboards.

Whiteboards

We bought a few 4x8 sheets of plain white melamine from the local hardware store. Melamine provides a smooth, flat surface and whiteboard markers wipe right off if. They're cheap, costing only about $15 for each sheet.

To mount several sheets together, you can buy some strips that sit between the boards.

Mounting the boards is simple. We just put some construction adhesive on the backs of the boards and mounted them on the walls. A big bolt and washer on each corner helps keep the board from sliding while the adhesive dries and gives it a nice industrial look.

Whiteboards

We put up 10 whiteboards and the total cost for the whole project was under $500 for the melamine, glue, and screws. Add in a few hours of work to mount them all to the walls and we've got number of collaborative spaces scattered around the office.

Nice!

I’ve always wanted to do that, thanks for the tip. Now to find enough office space to try this out on… :)
